2006-07-15 [irulan]: Hmm, it's really hard to get fair judging here. Even if the pictures were posted without the names of the artists, styles are recognizable. ;/ One of the better things to do is make voting a combination of a general poll open to everyone and a panel of set judges that maybe you can rotate between battles? I love the idea of wagering - you could have folks post their bets until the last day of the battle, lock the wiki, run the voting for a set amount of time (maybe a week?) and then just award your tickets after that. You can keep a running total of who has what on a separate page. Whee, fun stuff! :D 

2006-07-15 [Perplexity]: I dunno how you will be able to do the judging fairly if it is by public poll. Those things always end up being popularity contests. Well, most of the time anyway. And I kinda like the idea of wagering, but I dunno how that would work either. Who is providing the prizes? Us? =/

2006-07-15 [Evilmonk]: As far as the wagering goes I was thinking of making it to where if you spread the word or plugged the sight or even participate you get a certain amount of 'currency' that can be used for wagering. I need a gambling den wiki and someone to keep track of the bets and money. I was thinking of having everyone who wanted to participate in someway donate art or just prizes. But if someone wanted to spend their tickets on a prize they would be responsible for sending the required postage to whomever will be sending the prize. It isn't that expensive and I don't believe that the donors should be stuck with the cost.

I know a lot of folks here who would claim to be fair but I am a little hesitant about having judges. I think we can come up with a better system if we really think on it for a bit.

At the end of the fight, you get your group of trustworthy opinionated judging-people together, and they all argue (in a friendly and only slightly bloody way) about which one should win, and which art gets the most convincing argument backing it up, wins. Also both the artists will hear what people think of their piece, hear a little about how people see it, get ideas on how to improve possibly... Only set a few rules like no dissing the other entry, only praising and comparing ("this is best" and "this is better", not "this is bad"), both artists get to ask certain people to be the judges maybe (so both will have friends in there)... ?

2006-07-18 [Evilmonk]: Well I have thought of that. I know [smakeupfx] would vote for the picture he thought was best exectued wether it was mine or not. He isn't caught up with the whole 'hurting peoples feelings' complex, when it comes to that. I think he would be a fair judge, but I am still trying to find a more solid way of judging. It would be ideal if there weren't any relations in the judging. Like my wife, that would not be very fair, she would judge true, but if it came down to her liking both pieces greatly, well guess who she would vote for. Thats rhetorical. Thats the situation I wish to avoid. I want the art to be judged for just that, the art and relation should have nothing to do with it.

I think its like hiring a convict, its one of those things that business CLAIM they won't discriminate against, but they do anyways. I am still thinking it through. Opening the polls to the public would again only turn it into 'who has the bigger friends list wins'. I am open to ANY thoughts about this, as it is becoming an issue.

(In the form of fictional currency: Creds) I also thought about having a 1- 10 point system. No 9.5's or anything like that. A judge would give a rating of 1 being poor through 10 being perfection on different catagories like technique, detail, dynamics, anatomy or things like that. How does that sound?

Tina and I have been answering a LOT of repeat questions, or questions to things that are already covered.
